Take a Photoshoot In Your Neighborhood

Monday, August 24, 2009

This past week, I drove around our town with fresh eyes on the lookout for great backdrops. Specifically, I was looking for painted brick walls, solid bold colors, textures that create interest without distracting from the character of the picture. These are some photos I took around our town.

This is the stool that normally sits in front of our fireplace. But I brought it with me and thought it was perfect for this outbuilding across the street from the downtown park:

The backdrop for this photo is a park bathroom. I also brought a tripod and one of the kids' chairs:

Belle at a used car dealership. I love color wheel opposites combined like this orange and blue.

Perhaps this is the new version of pulling over to pick some wildflowers. Only now what we capture on the side of the road can leave a much longer lasting impression.

Love the pictures! They are great. Just out of curiosity, what camera are you using? I have really got to get better at using mine. When I see how good your pics are I see how BAD mine are! Jackie

Deep Ellum is FULL of amazing walls and spots to photograph...our son's last photoshoot was down there and we got a lot of very creative shots because of the walls...

Cheers!

Christie- thanks for the deep ellum tip! i'll keep that in mind!

Jackie, I have a Canon D20. I think and I use about 20% of it's awesomeness. But before that I just had a Canon PowerShot and loved that, too. I still use it when I need to. I read that manual from cover to cover to use every PowerShot feature and it really improved my pictures!

Amanda-yup, she got her hair cut-and we haven't had a single issue with tangles since. She's really able to take care of it herself now, so it was worth the chop!
