Our Homeschool Co-op started back up again for the semester, and this time around I'm teaching Drawing with Children, based on the Mona Brooks' book. Part of my preparation for the class, was making a portfolios for each of the children's artwork. I wanted the kids to give importance to their work. And know that I saw their work as significant enough to protect during the semester and when they finally take them home.
These are very simple, and inexpensive, but I think they are pretty cute, too. Just a piece of posterboard folded in half (or two full sheets of posterboard for a larger case-like the ones I use for my kids' keepers at home). I used red duct tape, because who doesn't loved colored duct tape? And hole punched the top the case, where I tied red grosgrain ribbon for handles.
I think I've shared this site before, but I love
Art Projects for Kids, so I'm giving you a link again.
How do you encourage little artists?

What a GREAT idea! They are so expensive to buy! I'm totally doing this for my kids!
OK I'm off to the workshop to search through the toolboxes for duct tape but I think our tape is a yucky brown colour! I have made art folders before but never thought of using duct tape to bind the edges - it will make them so much more durable. I love this idea and thanks for the link to the art site Kristen.
That is a great way to store artwork. My kids bring their accumulated works home like this from art class every marking period. I could make them for home, too!
I LOVE this idea!! I just need to find some red duct tape now....
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for sharing this!!!! I will be making this!!!
Micah has already mentioned with excitement that he will be bringing home a portfolio of his work at the end of the semester!
I love this idea! I have one son in particular who is always creating works of art, and he would think a portfolio is cool. Easy storage, too!
In case anyone's interested, I'm sure I just saw some pretty patterned tape at JoAnn's; it would probably be a good price with a coupon. :)
Loving this simple but awesome idea!
This is great!! I might keep one for myself. I needed a cheap way to store some of my sketches :)
I like the ribbon handles and duct tape to secure the sides in style. I've also used Drawing w/ Children and love the Art Projects for Kids site. Used them extensively teaching co-op art as well as at school. The posterboard portfolios hold up well and take up little storage space.
Thank you! I'm also teaching art at our homeschool co-op and will be making these with the kids.
